Overview

For the Census Abu Dhabi Analytics Project, delivered through HBS for the Statistics Centre Abu Dhabi, I led end-to-end development and deployment of enterprise dashboards and automated reports. They support policy decision-making across multiple government departments. The work covered requirements and KPIs, ETL and data validation, secure portal delivery, and user enablement.

Business problem

  • Multiple government departments needed timely, consistent visibility into census operations, population insights and departmental KPIs.
  • Recurring reporting consumed significant manual effort and turnaround time.
  • Data came from several platforms (Oracle, PostgreSQL, Databricks and internal census systems) and needed validation and reconciliation.
  • Hundreds of internal and external users needed secure, user-specific access, and enough confidence to use self-service analytics.

  • Project leadership from requirements to deployment, coordinated using Agile.
  • KPI definition and BRD documentation with cross-functional stakeholders.
  • ETL design with Alteryx, Azure Data Factory and SQL stored procedures.
  • Automated data validation and reconciliation controls.
  • Dashboard and report development in Power BI, SSRS and Wyn Enterprise.
  • Power BI Report Server configuration with RBAC, and embedding into a centralized portal.

Implementation

    Requirements & KPIs

    Worked with departments to define reporting KPIs and document them in BRDs, then planned delivery in Agile iterations.

    Integration & transformation

    ETL workflows in Alteryx, ADF and stored procedures integrated and cleansed data from Oracle, PostgreSQL, Databricks and census systems, transforming 10M+ records.

    Validation & reconciliation

    Automated checks ran across reporting layers, in line with internal governance and quality-control standards.

    Dashboards & automation

    50+ dashboards in Power BI, SSRS and Wyn Enterprise, and 25+ recurring reports automated.

    Secure portal delivery

    Power BI dashboards were embedded into a centralized web portal, with RBAC on Power BI Report Server for user-specific visibility.
